With the increasing complexity of modern vehicle systems, software development is playing an increasingly important role. Yocto Linux, an open source project for creating customized Linux distributions, is increasingly being used in the automotive industry as a basis for embedded systems. This bachelor’s/master’s thesis aims to investigate the suitability of Yocto Linux for use in automobiles, to optimize it and adapt it to the specific requirements of this industry.

Tasks:

Familiarization with the Yocto project structure and creation of customized Linux distributions
Analysis of requirements and specifications for Linux-based systems in the automotive sector
Examining real-time requirements for applications such as ADAS and infotainment systems
Integration of CAN, LIN or Ethernet drivers as well as other vehicle bus systems
Setting up a development and testing system and initial tests on control devices or infotainment systems
Further tests to evaluate runtimes, boot times, resource consumption and system stability under real conditions

Profile:

Your studies should be in the field of computer science or communications engineering
You have knowledge of programming with C/C++ and ideally also have experience in hardware-related development
Experience with open source projects is an advantage
You work in a structured manner and value effective team communication
